The British Heart Foundation says that more than 20 million Brits are physically inactive – with the proportion of women rising even higher.
Government guidelines for physical activity say we should all be doing at least 150 minutes of moderate intensity physical activity a week and strength activities at least two days a week. We should also break up long periods of sitting with light activity – especially given many of us are sitting on our bums for, on average, 76 days a year.
We all know we should do it – but many of us put it off. According to Arthritis Research, the top three reasons for not exercising are not having the time (33 per cent), feeling tired (32 per cent) and cold weather (28 per cent). Joint pain was also revealed as a barrier to exercise for 51 per cent of people; physiotherapy, improved diet and sleep can all lead to improvements in joint pain.
Exercise shouldn’t be a chore. It doesn’t need to take huge amounts of time, you will be amazed how easily you can fit it into your daily routine. Movement and exercise can stop you feeling lethargic and tired, and has many other noticeable benefits including better sleep and improved mood.
At OneWellness, we have personal trainers who are here to help people of all abilities and ages.
