Thanks to all of you who attended our Children’s performance & Injury Prevention Seminar. Special thanks to co presenters Mr Nick London & Duncan McCarthy.
The Seminar was aimed at Sports Team Coaches, PE teachers and Parents with children involved in sport. Stephen Kirk – Specialist Physiotherapist at OneWellness presented on common sporting injuries found in children and introduced the FIFA 11+ program. This is a well validated strengthening program that sports teams can undertake regularly and has been shown to significantly reduce the incidence of major injuries.
Mr Nick London, Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon from the Yorkshire Knee Clinic then presented on how ACL injuries are diagnosed and treated from an orthopaedic standpoint. He discussed his wealth of experience in the clinical area and what coaches should do to reduce the incidence of these injuries.
Mr Duncan McCarthy, Sports Performance Coach then presented on the psychological impact that injuries can have on children and how this can be managed. His talk sparked lots of interest and discussion from the audience as it is a topic area that is commonly overlooked.
Following the talk Stephen has already been approached by several of the coaches that attended to go to their local clubs and help them implement their injury prevention programs.
A really informative & thought-provoking night. Watch this space for future events at OneWellness Harrogate.
